Jack Cox started carving waterfowl decoys in the early 80’s.  Raised in Currituck, NC, he grew up enjoying waterfowl hunting at an early age on Currituck Sound.  He still hunts today, but it’s not as much about the hunting as it is just observing waterfowl.

He is a self taught artist that carves smooth as well as decorative decoys.  His carvings are in private collections across the US as well as foreign countries.  Carving for Jack is a full time hobby as he also has an electric motor business.

He also displays and competes at various decoy shows.  He judges at many competitions including the Ward World Championship in Ocean City, MD.  He has taught classes at his shop, given seminars at the world championship, and taught for the Ward Foundation through a grant from The national Endowment for the Arts.

He has won numerous “Best of Show” awards.  He has won the North Carolina championship five times, the W.J. Gregory pairs competition six times, and Virginia

DU carver of the year twice. He has also won Best of Show twice in the gunning decoy class, as well as third in world in the decorative world pairs.

In 2011 Jack was the master carver at the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD.  His centerpiece carving was a decorative pair of wood ducks.  For 2012

he will be honored as the featured carver for the 25th Annual Core Sound Decoy Festival.

Jack and his wife, Alberta, reside in Camden, NC.  He can be reached by phone @252-339-4326 or by e-mail at jackcox@centurylink.net.
