Loon Day 2008 was a wonderful event! We had a good crowd, an exciting competition and a lively auction afterwards. The auction raised $2,800 for the Guild. Loon Day is an event held by the Decoy Guild each year in May. The first several years the competition was for "Loons Only" but this year the decoys were Goose and Confidence decoys. The competition is a donation competion in that the decoy itself acts as the entry fee. All birds entered become property of the Decoy Guild.
The judging takes place at the Harkers Island Bridge area with the decoys out in the water and the judges making their evaluations from the shore. The decoys are hidden before the judging so only they can not be pre-judged at a closer distance.
This competition carries a $200 first prize cash purchase award, $100 for second place, $50 for third and $25 for fourth place.
