2005 Loon Day Event
Saturday May 14, 2005
Loon Day is an event held by the Decoy Guild each year in May. The first several years the competition was for "Loons Only"
but in 2005 we specified only diving ducks. The competition is a donation competion in that the decoy itself acts as the
entry fee. All birds entered become property of the Decoy Guild.
The judging took place at the Harkers Island Bridge area with the decoys out in the water and the judges can only see them at a distance. The
decoys are hidden before the judging so only they can not be pre-judged more closely.
The winner of the 2005 Loon Day diving duck competition won a $200 first prize cash award, second place took home $100, $50 for
third and $25 for fourth place.

The Loon Day winners were:
- 1st Place -- Pat Eubanks - Bufflehead
- 2nd Place -- Curt Salter - Hooded Merganser
- 3rd Place -- Kelly Nelson - Goldeneye
- Honorable Mention -- Tommy Rogers -- Canvasback
There was an auction of the competition decoys, including all the ribbon winners, as well as other decoys and items. Shrimp burgers were
served for lunch for $5.00 per plate.
